I attended the 21st Annual Foot Washing for I attended the 21st Annual Foot Washing for the Homeless as a volunteer, and I have to say this church is amazing in its outreach to the homeless of downtown Miami. It was an amazing day, and wonderful to see and be a part of ministry to the homeless. I have never seen anything like this... the total efficiency and organization of the event was something you would have to see to believe.

Found my new church Home! Found my new church Home! I was looking for a new church home. I live on the beach and as so many on the beach do I decided early on to get rid of my car, so accessibility was one of my top priorities. Because FUMC Miami was right on Biscayne Blvd in the heart of downtown Miami, I had full access by every one of the many buses that cross the bay on the MacArthur Causeway. A few don't go down Biscayne, but that's no problem at all, because the Metro Mover which stops at the Omni is a great option from that central bus station OR the Govt. Center MetroRail station. The Freedom Tower Metro Mover station is just a block and a half from the church, so getting there could not be easier. The first day I walked in (Sept 2009), I was warmly welcomed even as I walked through the door, by one of the ushers and stalwarts of the church. I took a seat and not 3 minutes later, the Pastor greeted me. Then several minutes later, welcomed by yet another long-time member who has now become a great friend. I took a seat and not 3 minutes later, the Pastor greeted me. Then several minutes later, welcomed by yet another long-time member who has now become a great friend. Part of God's providence was that I picked the seat I did, because he always sits right behind where I sat down and we have become great friends and brothers in Christ. My faith is clearly the most important part of my life, and the Gospel is central to that faith. I was greatly encouraged by the sermon that day which had Gospel truth sprinkled throughout. I was also so very encouraged by the fact that the church is in ministry to the homeless of Miami and has a hot meals program for seniors as well. Miami because of it's warm temps and central location has a huge homeless population as anyone who lives here is keenly aware; that they had a feeding and ministry program in place for them was a huge draw for me. Giving to the poor is part of our calling as Christians, but rolling up your sleeves and actually ministering to them is the true calling. Any church can give money, it's the clean neat and easy way to deal with a problem you wish would go away. To invite them in, feed them and share the Gospel demonstrates that FUMC Miami takes the calling very seriously. Miami is one of the most diverse cities in the nation, and the congregation at FUMC Miami reflects that. They welcome you no matter what your background is. We've all seen the United Methodists TV ad - Open Minds. Open Hearts. Open Doors. This is a church that LIVES that motto each and every day. They worship three days a week, so there are options beyond the traditional Sunday morning worship. You may just find a new church home too!
