Breakfast Club Ministry
Our 21st Annual Foot Washing for the Homeless of Downtown Miami was a huge success and awesome blessing! God blesses those who use His Kingdom to His will… Learn more...
For nearly thirty years, FUMC has served breakfast to our homeless brothers and sisters on Sunday mornings at 7:30 a.m. It is a time to nourish the body and soul. Meals are prepared the day before, on Saturday afternoons, at 2:00 p.m. The meals are distributed by a team of volunteers along with hot cups of coffee. A worship service is prepared by a rotation of leaders including a time of prayer. This is one of the central components of our community life and essential to who we are as a church.
For years, volunteers from both our church and the community, including those of other faiths, have come to provide nourishment to those most in need. During the holidays we offer a special meal and gifts. In the winter, blankets are provided to each person. The relationships that have been built during these years have been lasting and many persons who receive from the ministry now come and assist with meal preparation and distribution.
In partnership with Trinity Episcopal Cathedral, FUMC also provides meals to the homeless on Wednesday and Friday mornings at 6:30 a.m. These meals are prepared in advance on Tuesday and Thursday afternoon at 2:00 p.m. These meals are distributed on 5th Street, on the north side of the FUMC. A total of four volunteers are needed each week to prepare the meal and distribute it. Feeding the hungry is a truly humbling way to begin each day – especially as the sun rises over the Bay! We invite you to consider giving of your time, even once a month, to experience this act of service.

Annual Foot Washing
In the spring, FUMC hosts a “Foot Washing” in honor of the act of service that Jesus offered to his disciples. On a Saturday afternoon we welcome our homeless brothers and sisters into the Fellowship Hall for their feet to be washed. Podiatrists from Barry University come to attend to the needs of each person. And one of our partners, “Soles for Souls,” provides a new pair of shoes for each person. Last year nearly 300 were served. It is one of the most anticipated events of our church’s year as it reflects with such clarity our role as servant to the community of Downtown Miami.

Hot Meals for Seniors
For over thirty years, “Hot Meals” has been serving the elderly population of Downtown Miami. It began with two women with a vision to provide meals and programming for an aging population. Each week from Monday-Thursday and Saturdays the Hot Meals program operates from 9:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. providing lunch for the small fee of $1.00 along with educational programs and entertainment. Persons do not have to attend every day. The program is funded by a grant from Miami-Dade County with the stipulation that each participant be 62 years of age and have a valid Social Security number.
Enrollment in the program can be made by calling 305-371-4706.
