What We Believe

The Cross that greets you from the parking lot entrance in the courtyard

United Methodists share a common heritage with all Christians. We believe in the Trinity, or God in three persons. The threefold nature of God is commonly referred to as Father, Son and Holy Spirit or in other ways such as Creator, Redeemer and Sustainer.

We believe in God who created the world and all that is in it. We believe that Jesus was both human and divine and that through his death and resurrection, God reconciled the world to himself. Through this reconciliation, we each are offered forgiveness of sins and eternal life. We believe that Jesus’ life offers a pattern of humility and service toward which we should each strive in our own lives. We believe that the Holy Spirit is God with us, actively participating in a way that awakens us to God’s will and strengthens us to live obediently.
We believe the Bible is the Word of God and it serves as our primary authority for our faith and practice. We believe the Bible is a “living” document and that each Christian should study both the Old and New Testaments as a way of deepening their spiritual life.

We believe the kingdom of God is both a present reality and a future hope. In this way, we seek to live faithfully as participants in reigning in the kingdom of God for all people and, ultimately, for peace on earth and in heaven.

With many other Protestants, we recognize the two sacraments in which Christ himself participated: Baptism and the Lord's Supper. We practice infant baptism and certainly baptize a person of any age who has not yet been baptized in a Christian denomination. We share in the Lord’s Supper on the first Sunday of each month and consider this a formative time in our community life. We practice "open Communion," welcoming all who love Christ, repent of their sin, and seek to live in peace with one another.

Call to Faith

It is our firm conviction that what God has done through Jesus Christ is indeed good news to all of creation. We believe that God seeks wholeness for all of God’s people and that this can come through a life-giving relationship with Christ. Particularly in a time when there is evident brokenness all around us, we celebrate that Jesus brings wholeness and healing even to the most devastated hearts, lives and families. We invite you to commit your life to a relationship that will not disappoint you and we invite you to seek this relationship today. Our congregation will welcome you on the journey.
